What are Reclaimed Bricks?
Reclaiming bricks is a simple process. First, used bricks are taken from demolition sites. They're cleaned up and any big chunks of mortar, concrete or other construction materials are removed.
The bricks are then quality checked and stacked onto pallets, ready for reuse.

What are the advantages of using a Reclaimed Brick?
Old bricks are much stronger than new modern bricks. Old bricks are made from 100% natural clay, whereas new bricks contain cement, ash, sand and other additives to reduce their cost (and quality). Old bricks also have no perforations or core holes running through the bed of the bricks, unlike new bricks. For comparison, the average weight of an old brick is 4kg and the average weight of a new brick is 1kg.
Reclaimed bricks have also been naturally weathered and therefore are ideal for matching originally buildings.
Building with reclaimed materials is an environmentally-friendly option. It reduces demand for new materials and saves discarded materials from landfills.
Most houses in the UK were built pre-war and these houses were built with an ‘’Imperial’’ Sized Brick. Post war, with a surge of demand for new housing, brick manufacturers invested heavily in new manufacturing methods to meet the demands. To capitalize on this demand, they changed over to a ‘’Metric’’ brick size system which reduced the size of the brick by 15%. Still to this day, bricks in the UK are manufactured to the metric size system. If you are attempting to match a building built pre-war, you’ll require an ‘Imperial’ Sized brick which you will struggle to find from a traditional builder’s merchant.

Where are reclaimed bricks sourced from?
We source our bricks from our demolition projects, from derelict farm houses to large commercial developments. We also help local builders out by removing building supplies that can be reclaimed, that would have otherwise gone into a skip for removal.

Why do reclaimed bricks cost more than new bricks?
There are costs associated with sourcing and cleaning reclaimed bricks which need to be factored into the price.
As reclaimed bricks are rarer than new bricks, demand is often higher than supply which can drive up prices.

Do you clean bricks?
Yes, all of our bricks are hand cleaned and sorted through to ensure all bricks are of the best quality and clean, before being stacked onto a pallet and wrapped ready for delivery.
We carefully reclaim bricks, stone, timber, roof tiles, architectural items, metals and anything else we can recycle.

Do your photos accurately represent the materials in person?
We do try our utmost to accurately represent the materials in our product imagery. Though the colour, texture and shape can never be guaranteed on reclaimed products. The photos are used only for reference purposes.
We strongly recommend visiting our yard if possible.
The colour on the photos will depend on the time of day and weather conditions when it was captured. The colour of mortar and brick finish can drastically change the overall tone of a wall once built.
